Description
What a great unretouched piece of Americana advertising history. Pre-prohibition Green River 24" dish tin lithograph ad sign. THis sign is fully intact including a solid rim and dish metal. It also has a very clean back and fully intact original metal hanging strip. A classic depiction of horse lead by the rider with the jug of Green River Whiskey strapped to the saddle and a big smile on the rider's face. Jug depicts the first of the two classic ad slogans "Green River, The Whiskey Without The Headache". Underneath the horses feet is the arched secong classic slogan, " She Was Bred In Old Kentucky". The only other verbal printing on the sign is the "Green RIver Inn" sign hanging in front of the tree in the upper left section of the dish.Of course with authentic age there is some chipping to the copper toned outer rim and I know the dish needs a fine cleaning. I was tempted to undertake the cleaning myself, but felt it best to leave to the new owners discretion. I have included a few magnified photos to show the solid condition of the actual lithograph ink printing which is very strong. The lithograph imagery is under the copyright of J. W. McCulloch and the lithograph art work was created through Chas. W. Shonk Co. of Chicago. Both of their rights and identification is in the small printing just above the lower front rim. As in all my Living Estate Sale listings I include Free Shipping and utilize the "Best Offer" sale format. I have seen true auction results on this sign from the high hundreds to over ,000. It is difficult to determine the markets opinion in regards to the value of "reconditioning" apposed to having an original piece so I am placing it out there in the mid-range of sale examples and I will let you decide current value of this great piece of Americana Kentucky Whiskey ad history
